Sonific.com recently announced it was closing its doors because it couldn't get any attention from the major record lables. Previously they'd complained about sites like imeem.com which has built its leading position in web2.0 music on a service which was initially of dubious legality. Muxtape is in many ways a clone of imeem, albeit with different UI, limits on numbers of tracks and none of the social features that imeem has. It’s not ruinning through any legal loophole, it’s trying to grow quickly enough so that when the lawyers come calling they’ll have some leverage.
